MAYOR KAUNDA TO INTRODUCE CONTRACTOR FOR THE UPGRADE OF THE HAMMARSDALE WASTEWATER TREATMENT WORKS
EThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda, will on Friday, 26 January introduce the contractor that will be conducting the upgrade of the Hammarsdale Wastewater Treatment Works.
The upgrade, which will cost over R250 million, is part of the Municipality's concerted efforts to upgrade its aging infrastructure.
This in turn will prevent raw sewerage from flowing into the ocean and contaminating the City's bathing beaches.
The scope of the upgrade will focus on the provision of new unit processes, these being the inlet works and sludge dewatering which are the most critical to any wastewater treatment plant.
Also, the projected industrial and residential growth in Hammarsdale - especially the existing developments within the Sterkspruit catchment -has necessitated the functional upgrade and improvements of the plant.
The media is invited to attend the handover. Details are as follows:
Date: Friday, 26 January 2024
Time: 9am
Venue: Elangeni Park (Opposite the eThekwini Water Department in Hammarsdale)
